Loreto Chapel
1600 Sturt Street, Ballarat
Wander through one of the most magnificent chapels in Australia and discover its fascinating history. In 1875, Mother Gonzaga Barry, accompanied by ten Loreto Sisters, arrived from Ireland and created a religious foundation in Ballarat. Mother Gonzaga Barry’s dream was to build a Chapel for children where they would be inspired simply by stepping into the treasured space. A generous bequest from Countess Wolff- Metternich in 1902 enabled the Chapel to be completed.
While you are here don’t miss the beautiful gardens at the entrance to the Chapel, the cemetery, Lourdes Grotto and Rosary Way. Refreshments available.
